ALERA Industrial Advocacy Training Course

The Industrial Relations Society of South Australia (IRSSA) is pleased to announce that, with the support of the Fair Work Commission, it will host the Australian Labour and Employment Relations Association Industrial Advocacy Program in Adelaide from Friday 31 October 2014 to Sunday 2 November 2014.  Download the Registration Form HERE!

The course objectives are to provide:

  • a skills based program which exposes participants to the principles and practices of advocacy in the Fair Work Commission; and
  • participants with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in respect of advocacy within the Fair Work Commission with the supervision and support of experienced advocates and Tribunal members.

The course is designed to cater for a range of experience levels from those who have never engaged in formal advocacy to those who are experienced but wish to refine their skills.
The course will be delivered by former Senior Deputy President Brian Lacy and renowned industrial barrister Chris O'Grady of the Melbourne Bar together with a range of experienced advocates and current members of the Fair Work Commission who will work with participants in the workshop sessions.

The course will be conducted over three full days.
On Friday 31 October 2014 the theory component of the course will be delivered at the Fair Work Commissions hearing rooms.
On Saturday 1 November 2014 and Sunday 2 November 2014 skill workshops (moots) will be held in allocated hearing rooms. Certificates will be presented to participants over drinks and nibbles on Sunday following the conclusion of the course.

The registration fee includes detailed course materials, three full days of learning, morning/afternoon tea and lunch on each day and a drinks function on Sunday evening.
